Library News: April 26, 2024

Dear Reader:

For over 40 years, Russell & District Regional Library has been serving the public and refining its services in accordance with consumer demand.  Much of consumer demand depends upon technology and technological advances.  And so it is that such things as DVDs have become an antiquated item at our library.  For over a year, no one has checked out a DVD.  For this reason, we will no longer be using library shelf space for DVDs.  On the note of antiquated items, we have an extensive collection of audio books on CD.  For those of you that do not subscribe to Libby and paid apps like Audible, books on CD are the cat’s meow.  We encourage you to dust off your walk-man, pull out your CD player, replace the fuses in your vehicle’s pre-digital sound system and check out some books on CD.  If for no other reason, than for old time’s sake.  It is up to us to keep history alive.

Another classic selection we have available for your enjoyment is a gorgeous leather-bound set of World Book Encyclopedia; a set of World Book Childcraft; a set of Time Life Books: The Epic of Flight; a set of The Vietnam Experience; and last, but not least, eleven books in the Library of Nations series.  Let it be noted that these books are by generous donation.  Please know, the library is always accepting book donations.

For anyone that is unsure as to what a World Book Encyclopedia is, or Childcraft, for that matter, we encourage you come on down to Russell Library and find out.  For a true adventure in the tactile experience of holding a book in your lap and turning the glossy pages to unveil page after page of visual and intellectual timeless treasure, we’ve got you covered.

Speaking of having you covered, Mother’s Day is coming up and we would like to remind you of our upcoming Mother’s Day Raffle draw on May 10th at 4:30 PM.  Tickets on sale at Russell Library and Binscarth Library.  Also, in honour of Mother’s Day, we are hosting a Paint Night at the Russell Library Gallery on May 8th.  Starts at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $50.00 each.  Price includes all supplies etc.

Wonderful news for hot dog lovers.  We are kicking off Hot Dog Sale Season on May 9th at Biscarth Library at Noon, and again on May 10th at Russell Library at 11:00.  Come on out and bring your Mom.  See y’all soon!
