Dear Reader:
The Russell Library Gallery is home to a new art exhibit thanks to the Prairie Arts c’ARTel and Mr. Allan Tataryn’s incredibly broad display of art. From portraiture to landscape art to otherworldly art, Tataryn’s exhibit has got it all. Be sure to make time to treat yourself to a viewing. Mr. Tataryn is a Manitoba contemporary realist painter. He was born in Flin Flon and currently resides and works out of his studio, in Russell Manitoba. His mediums of choice are oil and acrylic paint, graphite (pencil), and India and acrylic inks. The primary sources of inspiration for his work are the Canadian prairie and boreal forest landscapes. His work is characterized by meticulous attention to the craftsmanship and detail of the pieces he produces.
He has participated in numerous group and individual local exhibitions and his work has been selected several times for showing at the Manitoba Rural and Northern Art Show. His work is in private collections across Manitoba and Canada.
Mr. Tataryn has completed courses offered by Brandon University’s Visual and Aboriginal Art Department and has completed numerous workshops and training activities in the visual arts but considers himself to be essentially self-taught.
Don’t tell anyone, but we hear tell the above Mr. Tataryn is soon to be offering a painting class and throwing a party at the Library Gallery: two separate events, not necessarily in this order. Stay abreast of Tataryn events by keeping your ear to the ground, (read the paper/follow us @yoursmalltownlibrary on Instagram).
In other news, over the Christmas holidays, the Russell Library hosted two movie night events and the month of January has us showing a handful more. We have a big screen, wicked sound system, excellent seating, fresh popcorn, and ice-cold drinks. For movie listings, stop in to the library for an events calendar, find us on line/facebook/Instagram. We look forward to welcoming you at the library for your next favourite book, a gallery visit, movie night and/or all of the aforementioned.
For an excellent selection of books stop in and visit us in Binscarth and Russell.
