Library News: December 15, 2023

Dear Reader:

The beginning of the month is when both the Raven Book Club and the Night Owl Book Club meet at the Russell & District Regional Library. Raven meets on the first Monday of the month at 1:30 in the afternoon.  Night Owl meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.  For the month of December, Raven is reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.  Night Owl will read Innocence by Dean Koontz for their next meeting on February 7, 2024.  If you would like to join either club, stop by the library and pick up the respective book, or just show up on the day and see if you’re a Raven or a Night Owl.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, we showed a movie in the Library Gallery called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Christmas Cabin Fever.  This was another maiden voyage, so to speak, as it was the first time we hosted a movie watching event on our big screen (approximately 3’x6’).  The Movie Theatre vibe was real, and the popcorn was real good!  See our website for upcoming movies at the library.  And now for the news I can hardly believe myself, even though I have had some time to digest it:  Lisa Clement has retired from The Russell & District Regional Library.  “The most important asset of any library goes home at night – the library staff.”  — Timothy Healy (1923-1992. Former President, New York Public Library).  All of us at Russell/Binscarth Library know the truth that lies in Healy’s words.  Now that Lisa has gone home at night from working at our library for the last time, there is a kind of hush at the desk, this morning.  Lisa, you are missed and will be missed by many.  We wish you well and wellness.  Thank you, Lisa, for your years of service to our library and our community.

For more information on any of our events, please contact the Russell Library at 204-773-3127 / ruslib@mymts.net or Binscarth Library at 204-532-2447 / binslb@mymts.net or message us on Facebook. Please visit our website at https://russellbinscarthlibrary.ca for more information.

Happy Reading,

Until Next Time,

The Library Ladies
