Dear Reader:
On the evening of July 22nd, Edward Podollan, beloved father of Russell & District Regional Library’s Manager, passed away very unexpectedly. For this reason, Library Manager, Christine, is away. Since then, the Library Ladies have come together in a truly amazing, albeit not surprising way, as that’s the kind of people The Library Ladies are. In Christine’s absence, there remain two beautiful libraries to run and two communities to serve, smiling and inquisitive Patrons to help on their collective and individual quest for knowledge and enjoyment through books and services provided at Russell Library and Binscarth Library.
While Christine always says, no one is indispensable, the death of a loved one brings the concept of human value, and the roles people play in our lives into clear focus.
Even though the Russell branch of Russell and District Regional Library is closed on Saturdays for the summer months, Summer is a very busy time for us at the library as we spend a lot of time fundraising and planning fundraisers. Thursday Hot Dog Sale in Binscarth and Friday Hot Dog Sale in Russell. Russell Library’s Hot Dog Sale is accompanied by the Farmers Market. The bustling energy of early morning arrival as Farmers and various other entrepreneurs set up their individual display and stock, the popping of corn and slicing of buns for the hot dog sale, the smiles, greetings and talk about the weather are all part of Hot Dog Sales and Farmers Markets.
The Library Ladies have disrupted their respective schedules and summer plans to help ensure that Russell & District Regional Library continues to function and serve others seamlessly and effectively. A heartfelt thank you to each one.
