Library News: July 12, 2024

Dear Reader:

Note: The version of O Canada printed in the June 28th edition of this paper was the English translation of the French original of 1880.  In 1908, His Honorable Robert Stanley Weir, D.C.L. wrote lyrics that became the official English version of Canada’s national anthem with the passing of the National Anthem Act, in 1980. The official French version of the anthem featured the original French lyrics, which have remained unchanged since 1880.

On January 31, 2018, legislation was enacted to change the English lyrics to ensure gender parity. The verse “True patriot love in all thy sons command” was changed to “True patriot love in all of us command.” No change was required to the French version.

Thank you to everyone that reads our column.

Art lovers and creators of art, we are pleased to announce:  A new display is up in the Russell Library Gallery. The Prairie Arts cARTel doesn’t disappoint.  On display is artwork from the recent Art Show that was held at the George P. Buleziuk Hall on the weekend of June 15 and 16. The work on display in the gallery was chosen by Adjudicators specifically for display in the Russell Library Gallery. There is work by adult and youth artists in this exhibit. Come on in and enjoy the range in beauty, texture and artistic mediums. Please, don’t forget to sign the guestbook.
