Dear Reader:
Camera Club is fast becoming one of our most popular clubs. Camera Club met again on June 12th and the turnout was excellent. One gentleman even came all the way from Yorkton to participate. The next Camera Club meeting will be on July 10th at 6:30 PM in the Russell Library Gallery. Next meeting’s project is to take/submit 3 photos with a Canada Day theme to ruslib@mymts.net. Photos will be made available on the evening, via projector big screen, for Club discussion. Choose your photos with care: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place rating will be discussed for each submission. Note: discussion revolves around what is called constructive criticism. All comments are made and received in the spirit of growth and development of the art of photography.
On Thursday, June 13th, Haylan Jackson, grade 2,3,4 teacher at Inglis School invited Russell & District Regional Library Manager, Christine Podollan, to an Unlikely Friends Party in celebration of the end of the class reading of Because of Winn-Dixie. The Unlikely Friends Party began with a pairing of Student and Community Member for a short interview that consisted of questions like “who is your favorite friend?” and “what have you learned from mistakes you have made?” Christine was interviewed by a lovely young lady called Lydia. Lydia was a diplomatic interviewer and perfect hostess. Interviews led to a lunch of lemonade, pickles, watermelon and Toffee candy. Lunch was enjoyed by all in a friendly fresh air setting outside. The relaxed chatter among unlikely friends was a sure sign that unlikely friends can be wonderful friends too. Thank you to Haylan and Lydia for your invitation, hospitality, and friendship.

Leisure by William Henry Davies
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like stars at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
