Dear Reader:
Russell & District Regional Library continues to host events which we hope appeal to a variety of audiences. Many events are pilot projects. Most recently, we hosted a Silent Book Club. While our two book clubs, Raven and Night Owl, are well established and attended by our regulars, there is another kind of book club said to be sweeping our big blue earth. Namely, Silent Book Club. Silent Book Club is touted as an Introvert’s dream. Mind you, the most introverted among us will probably continue to stay home and read. The draw for Silent Book Club, then, is that it is less interactive than a classic book club in that you read the book of your own choosing and are not expected to provide witty or intellectual feedback to a group of other people that have read the book and are eager to get in a word edgewise. Silent Book Club is a Club for you, dear Reader, if you want to appear social while being decidedly less so than your average Joe Blow or Jane Doe. Maybe you just want to get out of the house and be in the company of books and bibliophiles. Maybe you need to be a part of something that requires nothing from you, other than your quiet presence, breathing in and out. If any of this sounds like you, Silent Book Club is a club worth looking into at: silentbook.club
There is a fine line between advertising and news. For the person writing the article, everything is news. For the entity publishing the article, news can also be advertising. When it’s advertising, it goes into a paid section of the newspaper, or it may be cut from the article. The line is subject to outside factors like budget cuts, readership, generosity. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the entity that publishes our article every week. Crossroads This Week and The Russell Banner are generous, always helpful, and advise as to what may or may not appear in our published article. In any case, as a non-profit organization with a budget dependent upon the good graces of others, we ask that you visit your library or any library, every chance you get. Take a minute to browse the bulletin board in the entrance or visit the library website. Your library needs you just as much as you need your library.
