Library News: February 23, 2024

Dear Reader:

Valentine’s Day this year fell on a Wednesday.  Serendipitous, for a place that likes to host events on Wednesday evenings.  Well in advance of Valentine’s Day, Miss Alissa Ross contacted the Russell & District Regional Library to reserve the Library Gallery for her Piano Concert.  Posters were designed, printed, and distributed all over Russell and Binscarth as well as on social media.  In her own words:

“Hi there! I’m a local Russell person, (grew up here in town). I now teach private music lessons in Russell and the surrounding area.  A general description of the music for this concert is mostly Film and Broadway tunes.”

Alissa is a self-deprecating young woman with a teacher’s heart and big dreams in a small town.  Thank you, Alissa, for your willingness to perform for the public in the unforgiving glare of the spotlight.  While Valentine’s evening seems like a perfect evening to enjoy softly played piano music, it turns out that most of us opted to do so with lovers at home, instead of at the library.  And who can blame them?  Dear Alissa, our motto here at the library is this, “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.”  When circumstance conspires against us, the best next move is to take stock and carry on.  Thank you, Alissa, for sharing your heart for playing the piano with us.

Going forward, you will be seeing a couple of new faces at Russell/Binscarth Library.  After a long and in-depth search, Brittney Layh, and Hilarie Recknell have joined our team casual librarians.  Their training is underway, and we look forward to continuing to serve you with our two new Library Ladies.
