Library News: January 26, 2024

Dear Reader:

What a whirlwind January has proved to be!  At the start of the month, we almost had to brace ourselves for the ten-week month, (seemingly so, after the comparatively more relaxed holiday season).  And here we are already staring down the barrel of February.  Now that we are on the flip side of the cold snap, I’m sure we are all relived to see the forecast is looking downright balmy.

As Russell & District Regional Library nears the end of this month, we are putting the finishing touches on our Manitoba Public Library Statistics Report.  This report allows us to see how we are doing: areas of growth and areas where we can improve.  As we are continually seeking to expand and improve, this report fills us with inspiration and encouragement.  Our Annual Statistics exhibit growth and improvement in every category.  While this evidence is excellent, it also means that we must not become complacent in the glow of accomplishment.  We must pursue excellent Patron Service and Community Outreach every day.  Dear one reading this article, please remember that without you our mission is incomplete.  We look to you for direction in and engagement with our Binscarth and Russell Branches.

While we look forward to welcoming a new member, (yet to be discovered), to Team Library in light of the recent staffing changes, we all agree that we are empowered and strengthened through our collective experience.  We are honoured to serve others in the ways that we do, through sharing the love of literacy, learning, and the arts.

“Anyone who thinks gardening begins in the spring and ends in the fall is missing the best part of the whole year; for gardening begins in January with the dream.” – Josephine Nuese
