Library News: November 3, 2023

Dear Reader:

Not every day does our small-town library have the honor of welcoming an Oscar winner to one of our Wednesday evening speakers’ events, but, when we do, our community turns out in spades.  The Russell Library Gallery was pleasantly packed with avid listeners as the illustrious Jan Murray shared vividly recounted stories from her colorful past.  Listeners went from sitting on the edge of their seats in the kind of silence wherein one could have heard a pin drop, so to speak, to uproarious laughter as Jan eloquently spun the yarns that have made up some of the events of her life.  From a self-confessed stutterer to a singer and stage performer, to renowned costume designer and seamstress, wife and mother, Jan Murray’s determination has served her well.  Jan’s words of wisdom: “Figure out the difference between a need and a want.”  Thank you, Jan, for giving of your time to share a selection of your life’s stories with us.  Long live the oral tradition of storytelling.  Long live Jan Murray!
