Library News, August 18th, 2023

Dear Reader,

A new exhibit graces the walls of the Russell Library Gallery. Artist, Nellie Fotheringham is a self-taught artist with a focus in abstract art. Nellie has always had a keen interest in art, but only started to pursue making her own art after her retirement in 2018.  Fotheringham formerly worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Nellie is drawn to angular geometric shapes using color, lines, and textures. Nellie started out using heavy acrylic paints and a palette knife. Her focus now is creating paintings with cold wax medium, oil paints, oil sticks, and graphite powder, and uses a wide variety of tools including squeegees, brayers, and palette knives. These various methods create depth and history within multiple layers as well as selectively scraping and dissolving areas to reveal underlying layers.

Nellie lives with her husband, Gregg, at Kilman Resort on Lake of The Prairies, Manitoba.  Nellie and Gregg farm with their eldest son, Jamie, and his wife Julie, near Reston, Manitoba. When Nellie is at the farm, she loves to spend time with her grandchildren Atlas and Maizey. Gregg and Nellie have two other children as well.  Another son, Reed, and his wife Hailee, who live in Landmark, Manitoba, and their daughter, Mallory, who lives with her husband, John, in Strathmore, Alberta.  Reed and Hailee recently welcomed twins, Rylen, and Huxley:  born on August 11th.

Please come on in to the Russell Library & Gallery to enjoy Nellie Fotheringham’s fabulous works of art.  Be sure to sign the guest book.  We look forward to welcoming you soon.
