On Thursday April 27, Binscarth Public Library Librarian, Rayla Buss, welcomed children from Little Bloomers Learning Patch Inc to Storytime at the Binscarth Library: “It was so much fun, and they made a painting that is up in our window. They have given me 2 more dates in May that they will visit again.”
Rayla visited with Mrs. Arran, the Binscarth School Librarian, on May 8 to talk about books the children are reading. The two Librarians are working together to ensure that the children of Binscarth and area have a fine choice of books available for their reading enjoyment over the summer months.
Binscarth Library will host Coffee, Cookies, and Cards on May 18, from 3:00-5:00 PM. Everyone Welcome

Joshua Butcher: New in the Library Gallery (May 1-June 10)
Joshua grew up on a grain farm near Solsgirth, Treaty 2 Territory, and attended school in St-Lazare and Birtle. Butcher studied Fine Arts at U of M in Winnipeg and continues to refine his art. He looks to the following artists for inspiration and grounding: Cecily Brown, Neo Rauch, Daniel Richter, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Max Ernst, Francisco de Goya. Butcher lives and paints in Foxwarren, Treaty 2 Territory, and accepts portrait commissions regularly.
Artist statement:
“Painting gives me tremendous joy. I like to work on many pieces at once, sometimes upside down. My painting subjects vary greatly, depending on my mood, interest, and chance. I am a playful painter. I use erasure and omission to obscure and confuse. I use abstraction to present incomplete images that require the mind’s eye to complete them. I try to give the viewer the liberty to see on their own, and not dictate. I hope to pose questions, instead of giving answers, and encourage a varied reading of my work. I turn mistakes into opportunities and thrive on the strange, focusing on composition and color, not worrying about realism.
The goal is not perfection, but satisfaction.
Working on paper affords me a level of freedom while I’m working. I take more chances, experiment more, and have more fun. I use colored paper in order to avoid the blank canvas and enjoy the effect it creates when blending with other colors.
I also recycle painting surfaces and have developed a technique using window screens, which I continue to evolve.”
Russell & Binscarth have received the latest PLS rotations.
