The Russell Banner: March 28-April 3, 2023

Dear Reader:

New at the Library Gallery:

Adam Layh & Bridget Panych (Acrylic Paintings).  We are waiting on the artists to provide us with their own explication of their work.  In the meantime, one viewer’s first impression is: This exhibition has a 1970’s era Disco on The Prairies vibe. We’ll have the artists synopsis for you in next week’s issue of the paper.

The Library Ladies are all looking forward to Open Mic Night at the Russell & District Regional Library and we hope you are too! Open Mic Night, as advertised in last week’s Crossroads This Week and continuously at https://russellbinscarthlibrary.ca on the Russell/Binscarth Facebook Page as well as Instagram @yoursmalltownlibrary is going to be an evening of sharing stories, poetry, music and community.  Whether you come to share your piece or support those who do, please know that you are welcome to join us.

Also coming up at the Russell & District Regional Library is Lewellyn Melnyk’s evening of reading and signing books.  Lewellyn’s book, ‘Rooted: How I Stay Small Town Strong When Life Gets Hard and How You Can Too,” is a guide to finding joy, learning from struggle, and coming together one season at a time.  More information on this evening and the time can be found all over our social media spaces, on https://russellbinscarthlibrary.ca.  If none of these options are available to you, please call us at the Russell Library: (204) 773-3127.  We will be happy to tell you all about it when you call.

Rooted is scrupulously researched and beautifully written…I wish I’d had this book decades ago, when I and my clients were trying to survive the the 1980s farm depression.  Buy it; share it; read it, and remember, the farmers are the ones who feed us all.” – Sarah Vogel

Attorney, Author of The Farmer’s Lawyer, Former North Dakota Commissioner of Agriculture
