At this time of year, it’s hard not to want to fast-forward to Spring. By next Friday, it will be March 3rd already. How time flies!
The Russell and District Regional Library is very pleased to welcome our newest Librarian, Rachel Johnson. Rachel is relatively new to Russell. An Educator, Rachel loves people, coffee, books, and animals.
Just in case you didn’t already know this, faithful Reader, under the protective wing of The Russell and District Regional Library is The Binscarth Library, located in the beautiful town of Binscarth, Manitoba. The Binscarth Library, while small in stature, is a place of great beauty: on a treed corner lot, looking every bit like a, (miniature), Character Home you might find in Winnipeg. Already jam packed with great reading material, under the friendly care of Librarian, Rayla Buss, there is no book Rayla and Binscarth Library cannot order in for you. If, for some unfathomable reason, Rayla cannot find for you the book you would like to read, she is happy to find someone who can. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. If you follow the Russell Library-Russell and District Regional Library Facebook page, you will have had the joy of listening to Rayla read a children’s story aloud, every week. In case you missed it, Rayla’s last FB read was Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown, on February 11, 2023. Rayla has a heart for people of all ages, her friendly demeanor makes everyone that comes in to the Library feel welcome and at home. Currently, Rayla’s favorite quote is:
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”—Carlos William Eliot
Come back again next Friday to find out what is happening at The Binscarth Library next.
Jessica Davies’ Book Club: Raven, is experiencing record turnout and a fine group of folks continue to meet in the Gallery at the Russel Location of Russell and District Regional Library on the first Monday of every month. On February 6,th Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, will be wrapping up and another great book will be introduced. Raven’s To Be Read list is made up of books recommended by members of the club and drawn from a hat. Anyone can join Raven, anytime. The more the merrier.
Because you are still here, reading to the end, there is no doubt you are wondering about the rest of The Library Ladies. Well, as I’m sure you’ve heard, Sherry Bauming-Stasiuk’s last day of work at the Library in Russell was February 24th, 2023. We sent her off with cake, gifts, and well wishes. Looking forward to seeing her every time she pops in for a book and a visit.
Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to tell you a little bit about what Lisa Clement has been up to. As you may or may not realize, Lisa has been with the Library for approximately 19 years. Just several months ago, Lisa broke her leg, poor thing. Like the strong woman she is, Lisa has bounced back and is juggling physiotherapy and crutches all while helping to train and orientate new Team Members of the Russell and District Regional Library.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
“Beware, for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.”— Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
