Crossroads This Week: February 17-23,2023

At The Russell & District Regional Library, Sherry Bauming-Stasiuk’s resignation as Library Assistant has come as an enormous surprise to all of us. “I am walking away with some amazing memories and some wonderful friendships” Sherry says.   Sherry has been a fixture at the Library for many years:  known for her love of acronyms, eye-catching window displays and no-nonsense approach to life.  Sherry will be at the Library until February 24th, 2023.  Please come in and let Sherry know she’ll be missed.  We wish Sherry well and look forward to seeing her out and about in the community.

February 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness day.  How to celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness day:  Compliment at least five people, let the person in line behind you, go in front of you, leave happy notes around town, baby-sit for a single Mom for free, help an elderly person with something, go visit someone that doesn’t get out much, sit next to someone sitting alone at lunch.

Did you know that on February 17, 1936, the world’s first superhero appeared in a comic strip?  “The Phantom” is a costumed crime-fighter who operates from the fictional country of Bangalla.

Nobel Laureate and author of treasured novels such as Beloved and Jazz,  Toni Morrison was born on February 18, 1931.

February 21, 1965:  Malcolm X is assassinated.  Malcolm X became one of the most popular figures during the civil rights movement.
