Library News for the week of September 26, 2022

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Russell Library will be closed on Friday September 30th.  Regular library hours will resume Tuesday, October 4th.  We have several books discussing Truth and Reconciliation, including a new release by Chief Robert Joseph. The book, Namwayut–We Are All One: A Pathway to Reconciliation “provides a map for collective change and transformation. Reconciliation represents a long way forward, but it is a pathway towards our higher humanity, our highest selves, and an understanding that everybody matters. In this moving and inspiring book, Chief Joseph teaches us that we have to start to transform relationships with ourselves and each other. As we learn about, honour, and respect the truth of stories told by those who have experienced pain and who are grieving intergenerational trauma, we can discover how to dismantle the walls of discrimination, hatred, and racism in our society.” (From Raincoast Books).

New at the Russell Library this week:

  • Fight of Our Lives: My Time with Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s Battle for Democracy, and What It Means for the World by Luliia Mendel (Non-Fiction)
  • Namwayut–We Are All One: A Pathway to Reconciliation by Chief Robert Joseph (Non-Fiction)
  • To the Gates of Hell by David Nix (Western Fiction)

New at the Binscarth Library this week:

  • Captive by Iris Johansen (Large Print)
  • Sarah’s Gift by Anna Jacobs (Large Print)
  • A Family Affair by Robin Carr (Large Print)

Both the Russell Library and the Binscarth Library have received their large print rotations provided by Manitoba Public Library Services.  We receive 3 of these rotations per year and each consists of approximately 100 items, with a mixture of Biography, Non-Fiction, Fiction, and Western.  If you would like to see what came in with this rotation, both the Russell and Binscarth branches have a designated shelf for their rotations.

With fall approaching, we find ourselves spending more and more time indoors.  Why not join the Library Book Club?  If you would like to join the library book club, give us a call, send us an email, or better yet stop in and let us know.  Stay tuned to our web page at https://russellbinscarthlibrary.ca for more details regarding book club and other events at the libraries.

We would like to extend our thanks to our various vendors from Farmers’ Market and all those who came out to support the Russell Farmers’ Market and the Library by attending our weekly hotdog and drink sale.  We look forward to expanding the Farmers’ Market in 2023.
